A beautiful pair of Tank armchairs, masterfully restored in handwoven blankets from Swans Island Company, the Maine based textile and blanket workshop.
The Armchair 400 or "Tank Chair" is one of Alvar Aalto's best known works. The sculptural cantilever design showcases the beauty of bent plywood. The chair alone is one of the most comfortable chairs of mid-century design with the wide, deep seat. We worked with Swans Island to create beautiful blankets to be upholstered on the pair of chairs. We love the combination of the blond wood and the cream and blue stripe 100% wool blankets.
The handwoven wool Grace Blankets are one of Swans Island's original designs that they began making over thirty years ago. Inspired by blankets remembered from his youth, Swans Island founder John Grace created these quintessential blankets. Grace Blankets feature bands of hand-dyed stripes at each end for a classic coastal New England aesthetic.
