Betsy Orchard
Betsy Orchard
Betsy Orchard is a Saint Louis based artist who chooses clay, the original building material, as her medium. Orchard studied Architecture in her undergraduate and graduate studies.
Each of her pieces is handbuilt from either English porcelain, Coleman porcelain (a stunning translucent porcelain), and terracotta. Each flower petal is shaped, cut, and affixed to the vessel. It’s a time-consuming and beautiful process. Each vessel is water tight and can be used as a lovely vase full of flowers or a singular objet d’art on a mantel, table, or otherwise.
“I am a devout modernist and believe that less is (often) more and simultaneously know that Venturi was also right: less is a bore,” says Orchard.
We love her work and are so thrilled to offer the collection at Forsyth.
