Description

Introducing the Abalone Task Lamp, the fourth release from the Fall 2023 Venus Collection by Christopher Tennant, a whimsical new family of handmade fixtures inspired by the Surrealists and the natural forms of the sea. Employing the latest advances in cool-to-the-touch LED technology, the collection features table lamps and wall sconces made with hand-selected vintage specimen seashells in place of traditional shades, putting the organic source material behind so much 20^th century modernism front and center.

The sexily serpentine lamp is a double-jointed riff on that 20^th century workaday staple—the humble desktop task lamp. At 16” tall, it’s slightly more petite than the Abalone Lawyer’s Lamp, but makes up for its stature with astounding flexibility and rugged good looks. It consists of a terra cotta-tinted cast-concrete base and hand-wrapped paper-cord column topped by a cantilevered shade crafted from a sustainably sourced, barnacle-flecked brown Abalone seashell with a silver-hued, mother-of-pearl interior.

Fully adjustable swivels at the top and bottom of the column allow for fine-tuning of the shade angle and overall silhouette. Unfinished brass hardware, a khaki cloth-covered cord, 1940s-style plug, and contrasting inline switch complete the elegant profile of this hard-working, all-natural beauty.   

Made-to-order by hand in a numbered, signed edition by artist Christopher Tennant.
