Description
The Armchair 400 or "Tank Chair" is one of Alvar Aalto's best known works. The sculptural cantilever design showcases the beauty of bent plywood. The chair is one of the the most comfortable chair of mid-century design with the wide, deep seat. Upholstered in its original fabric, the famous Artek Zebra.
The classic Zebra fabric, originally created by Bauhaus weaver and designer Otti Berger, was discovered by Aino Aalto during European travels. Incorporated in Artek interiors as early as the 1930s, Zebra is perhaps most closely identified with the iconic Armchair 400. It is characterized by a soft, sensual feel and striking visual path.
