Union Vase 03, Palm Sculpture

Rrres Studio, founded by Dominican born Javier Reyes, is a collective of artisans and makers based in Oaxaca, Mexico. Rrres Studio was founded by designer Reyes as a means to champion traditional crafting techniques in Latin America with new ideas and expressions. We fell in love with their beautiful palm sculptures crafted by a family from Tlamacazapa, a Nahuatl community in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. In Tlamacazapa, palm weaving is an essential tradition for the culture.

The Family series of palm sculptures is inspired by the artisan families who work with Rrres studio. The sculptures are created using traditional techniques. Each is reinforced for greater durability and to achieve the large volume. The beautiful palm material changes color as it ages. In its youngest state, it is a warm yellow, as they get older, the color changes to a salmon tone.
